All the third graders in our class enjoyed hearing this book. We liked the message because it tells you to be yourself.

This is my daughter's all time favorite book. I think some of the other reviewers are underestimating kids. My daughter is 5 and has loved this book since she turned five - she never had a problem grasping the message which is to be who you are or risk becoming only what others want you to be. I agree its not great for littler ones, but only because it is pretty long, my three year old can't sit through all of it. But, despite having a very vivid imagination, she has never been afriad by it. I would highly recommend the book.

In a beautifully illustrated book that is perfect for a reasonably lengthed bed time read, David Shannon gives a humorous lesson in what can happen if one tries to please everyone. The cure to a "bad case of stripes" is to be yourself, even if that is different from everyone else. My 6 year old loves it!
